Seeing Red

There is nothing like a classic red nail.  Red lacquer is timeless, season-less, and looks good on any nail length.  While I have been crazy about neons and pastels this summer, I am having a serious red moment right now.  My current obsession with all things chola is not helping matters.  Maybe it's because my go-to gossip blog for years has been dlisted.   If you aren't checking this, I can't help you.  If you are, you know Michael K has a way with words and a serious thing for the chola ladies.  Compounding my obsession is my girl-crush on Kraeyshawn.  My iPod hates me because I've been playing Gucci Gucci on repeat for a while now.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, lets all sharpen our chola talons together and slap some red polish on.  I prefer a rich, dark red to a true red, but I can ride the orange-red train as well.  Here are some reds I am loving right now:

Now all you need are your hoops, rings, bandana, and some major winged eyeliner.

Just Peachy!

I just picked up some new polish for the weekend.  It's my go-to mood booster.  I chose a super fun bright peach from Revlon, called ... wait for it ... Peachy.  I have received a few compliments on this fun summer shade.  I think I might even try it out on my toes before I hit the beach for vacay in a few weeks.  Bonus-the polish is fast-drying!!!

Purple Ombre

I blogged about Ombre Nail Polish a few months ago and have been dying to test this look out.  Apparently, my sister, nail polish enthusiast that she is, rocks this look frequently.

Exhibit A: Meaghan's turquise ombre

I was in Annapolis with my sister last weekend and decided to give green ombre a go.  The major hurdle with this very precise look is that its really hard to get just the right "blend."  You might have four ideal shades of green, but then the fifth one is just off.   After careful deliberation and a very thorough search through my extensive polish collection, I decided to paint my nails Purple Ombre this week.  I am almost totally satisfied with the finished product.  I think the darkest shade is a little bit too dark, but like I said, this is harder than you think!

*side note: please excuse those "things" on the ends of my fingertips that once resembled decent looking fingernails.  I am still recovering from my feast.

BTW, I found this amazing ring today at H&M!

Crazy for Coral

Now that summer is here and I officially have a slight tan (thank you Origins self-tanner!) I am LOVING coral nails.  To me, coral is not too pink, and not too red, but just right.  Here are a few of my favorite shades:

California Coral by Essie

Conga-Line-Coral by OPI

Forever 21 Coral Nail Polish
*I'm sure it's super cheap and chips but I love the bottle!

White Out

Maybe it's the face I have some semblance of a tan on my formerly pasty limbs, or maybe I'm just defaulting to the old "after Memorial Day" adage, but I am so into white nail polish right now. (Please don't tell me I was the only innovative middle schooler who gave myself a white-out manicure during social studies class.)  My favorite way to wear this major summer look is stark white with a coat of clear gloss.  If you are just wanting to dip your toes into this trend, try an off-white or a sheer shimmery white.

Scarlett Johansson rocks bold white nails.

Eva Longoria wearing a more sheer shade of white.

Keep in mind, you want to buy a quality polish when going white.  For some reason, white chips a little faster and the better polish you use, the longer you stay on-trend.  Here are a few to look out for:

OPI has a few bold, bright whites - Funny Bunny, Pearl of Wisdom, and Alpine Snow

Essie - blanc and picket fence are creamy rich whites, while oui madame is pearlized and marshmellow is a sheer white.

A Shore Thing

Where have I been?  You may have been wondering if I bit off all my nails (I did.) I was hit with a ball of stress and I did not handle it well.  I know, it's beyond disgusting.  What can I say, even nail bloggers aren't perfect.

Before I digested a not so healthy dose of fingernails (ewwww, I know!), I spent the  l o n g   weekend at the Jersey Shore (Beach Haven, LBI to be exact.)  My very good friend's family has a house there and I have been lucky enough to spend the past 4 Memorial Day Weekends (and 3 Labor Days) as a Jersey Girl!  This weekend was fab.  There is honestly nothing like escaping NYC for a weekend of sun, friends, music, wine, and good food.  Here was my nail look for the weekend:

I used One of a Kind by Essie, an oldie but a goodie.  I liked the palm trees so much the last time, I decided to do another palm tree accent in teal.

Thanks for another weekend at the Shore Jared!
